Nutria (Coypu)
Nutria (Coypu)

Nutria can be found in large groups in Prague city centre on the islands in the Vltava and along both banks of the waterfront. These water rodents are not native to the Czech Republic, and have no natural enemies in the area. Nutria are native to South America but they were imported to Europe in the 1930's for fur and for meat and made it to Czechoslovakia by the 1950s. They have become naturalised but are considered an invasive species.
